Random Food Photo of the Day

I just realized that I have a very large collection of food pictures from all over the world. I am actually really happy that I can say that now.

But let's start with my favorite country of all, Vietnam!

This picture was taken back in 2008.

The mystery meat? Field Mice marinated in fish sauce, lemon grass and pepper.
If you look closely you can actually make out the shape.

They were caught in our own rice field during harvest time, which is when they are the most plump and flavorful.

Fish sauce, lemon grass and pepper will make anything taste delicious.

Fall Festival

I spent a couple hours of this morning photographing a festival at a local school where my friend works at.

She asked me if I could volunteer some time and I said yes of course and here are some of my favorite shots.

I switched between my regular zoom lens and fixed lens to capture the action and some portraits.

These were fidgety kids so I shot wide open on my zoom lens with an iso of about 600 (it was a cloudy day after all) to get a fast shutter speed.

And when I switched to my fixed lens, I opted to shoot 2-3 stops down from my max aperture, so at about 2.2-2.8 with a very low iso (50-100) to get sharper pictures. Any larger than that then too much of the subject would've been out of focus.

They were a pretty adorable bunch

Showing off some Light Room Magic

This was a random flower that I snapped and all I did was raise the Black level of the photograph to eliminate the background. It is my current wallpaper.

I just desaturated this photo and brightened up her eyes and blurred the surrounding area using the brush tool.

I used the brush tool to lighten up the brightness of the eyes and add a little blush to those adorable cheeks!

Old photo

(Before)

So I decided to do a little brushing up on Adobe Photoshop Lightroom and found this old picture of my friend Star to play around with.

After

Adobe Photoshop Lightroom is a pretty amazing piece of software that takes the best of photoshop and places in an intuitive user-friendly photo-editing interface. It also gives you many interesting tools too!

Notice the the soft highlights in Star's eyes (they look much better in the program, blogger tends to distort colors) they were added by using a simple brush tool that allows you to specifically target an area you would like to adjust.

With the Grandmother

So the light coming through the window was especially lovely today so I had them sit on a sofa with the light coming in diagonally so that there are both shadows and highlights.
